The Kirtle is our ’best room’ with spa bath and power shower ensuite. It can have a super king size bed or be set up as a twin room and still leave room for a cot if needed. It has the name found in the old deeds of our cottage originally called Kirtle Cottage when it was built around 1680’s. When refurbishing (rebuilding!) our cottage a beautiful stone wall was found behind the avocado bathroom tiles. Guests can see for themselves when they visit.
There are two roots to the name kirtle – if Scottish it is the under dress worn by women at the time; if you prefer the second it is the undergarment worn under the chain armour of the Viking warriors.
